Dancing Across the USA 10 - Indianapolis 500

Goodbye to Chicago!  We just might come back some day - lots of sights, food & shopping left to do.

We drove to New Castle, Indiana yesterday to stay with Uncle Joe Dietz in his magnificent home. He's a wonderful host, and he even got us tickets for the Indy 500.

Once we got to the track this morning, it was a fantastic experience. But it was a real struggle finding parking. We bonded as we cursed because we had no help from officers or signs. Google Maps was our only friend and even then most roads were blocked off. Finally we were able to park in someone's yard. God Bless that gracious homeowner.

We had about a mile to go on foot to the Indy Motor Speedway. Our seats were between turns 1 & 2, but we didn't go up right away. Too much to see & do before race time.

The Pagota

The ceremony was very moving - WWII vets, fly overs, and song and prayers. Of course, "Back Home in Indiana." Folks around us had mixed feelings about missing Jim Nabors.

Turn 1

The temperature climbed up and everyone was staying hydrated. Eventually, we had to go. We found a cool place to watch the end of the race, then headed to New Castle. We missed some crazy traffic.

Later, we had dinner at cousin Greg & Nancy's place. They have created a wonderful space for entertaining out of a chicken coop, and that's what they call it. It was a lovely evening with our lovely, loving Indiana family.
