Dancing Across the USA 6 - Across South Dakota

Today wasn't about sightseeing, today was about driving.  We wanted to get as close to Chicago as practical, in order to get into the city about noon tomorrow.  So we drove all the way across South Dakota and down to Des Moines IA in one day, about 9 hours (kudos to our Costco seat cushions).  The weather was supposed to be a problem according to the forecast, but we had nothing but blue skies in the morning and high cloudiness during the afternoon.

Best Highways going in South Dakota

Crossing the Missouri River
Two impressions about South Dakota.  First, commercial America hasn't come to this part of the world yet.  We did not see one burger ghetto between Rapid City and Sioux City, over 350 miles.  Second, South Dakota is the ancestral territory of the highway billboard.  And half of them are for Wall Drugs.

This type of picture gets taken when we are starved for visual content

We promise that tomorrow will be a more visual experience.
